Animal Care Programs
All Saskatchewan Egg Producers take part in the National Animal Care Program.
The program has guidelines on a number of important issues, such as animal handling, air circulation, space, temperature, water and feed. It ensures that all birds have access to fresh water, nutritious food, and a clean living environment.
Certified Field Inspectors monitor each Saskatchewan egg farmer to ensure that all Animal Care Regulation are met.The program is based on the Code of Practice, developed by Canada’s top veterinarians and experts in animal care as well as representatives from the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
The Code of Practice is currently under review by the National Farm Animal Care Council, and will be updated soon. Learn more about NFACC.
