Limited Egg Recall in Saskatchewan

February 17, 2024

Regulated egg farmers in Saskatchewan and across Canada proactively test for Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) in their barn environments. In the highly unlikely event SE is detected, farmers follow a rigorous protocol to ensure consumer safety.

Under incredibly rare circumstances, an error at an independent diagnostic lab resulted in a positive SE result from one barn being misreported as negative.

Out of an abundance of caution, Star Egg has recalled products that may include eggs from that small barn, even though the likelihood of SE being in the eggs is very low.

The recall includes:

  • Compliments Brand Large Dozen Eggs sold in Saskatchewan, with a UPC of 0 55742 35750 9 and the code 2024MR14 S-21 stamped on the carton.
  • Harman Brand Medium Dozen Eggs sold in Saskatchewan, with a UPC of 0 63902 00202 2 and the code 2024MR28 S-21 stamped on the carton.
  • Star Egg Brand Extra Large 15 Dozen Eggs sold in Saskatchewan, with the code 2024MR07 S-21 stamped on the carton.

This is an isolated, rare incident that does not reflect the quality and safety of Canada Grade A eggs.

In Canada, all regulated egg farmers observe strict food safety and biosecurity guidelines to ensure eggs sold at retail and to foodservice are of the highest possible quality.

Egg farmers in Canada adhere to the Start Clean-Stay Clean® on-farm food safety program. The program was developed with input from leading food safety experts, regulators and farmers, and includes regular farm inspections.
